Jamaica not included in Honda recall, says ATL
ATL Automotive Ltd yesterday said that the recent recall of 2002 - 2006 Honda CR-V sport utility vehicles in the United States does not include Jamaica.
Christopher DaCosta, group general manager, sales and marketing for ATL Automotive Ltd, the exclusive local dealer of Honda automobiles, said the recall issued October 4 affects the power window master switch on the 2002 - 2006 model CR-Vs.
According to ATL Automotive, a statement from American Honda Export Operations said that under severe conditions, water or other liquids may enter the driver’s window and reach the power window master switch on the door panel.
“This could damage the switch’s circuit board, causing the switch to fail. Only the vehicles built in the United Kingdom are affected by this malfunction. No action is needed for Latin America and the Caribbean,” the statement further clarified.
“We work very closely with American Honda and any recalls or system upgrades are immediately addressed directly with our customers,” DaCosta said yesterday.
Pointing out that Honda has an enviable safety track record in its class., DaCosta said: “We have represented the Honda brand in Jamaica for over 15 years. In that time, I cannot recall any major concerns related to the safety standard of the Honda vehicles in Jamaica.
“While the news of any vehicle recall can raise alarms, our customers can be assured that ATL Automotive’s service extends well beyond the purchase of the vehicle,” he added.
According to DaCosta, had Jamaica been included in the United States recall, affected customers would have been contacted immediately and repairs done at no charge to them.
He encouraged local customers who purchased their vehicle either directly from the United States or through another local importer and who would be affected by this recall to contact ATL Automotive as, together with American Honda, they can assist in addressing the issue.
