Jubilee market repairs start next month

Friday, March 15, 2013

RESTORATION of the Jubilee market, which was destroyed by fire in May 2009, is to begin in April, Mayor of Kingston Angela Brown Burke announced on Tuesday.

Brown Burke told the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation's (KSAC)'s monthly council meeting that plans for the renovation of the market in downtown Kingston were being finalised between the KSAC and the Urban Development Corporation.

She said that the corporation had held initial discussions with vendors at the burnt-out market structure at Jubilee to decide who should be relocated to the Redemption Arcade. "They are being advised to register at the Redemption Arcade, which was earmarked for them," the mayor said.

She said details about the reopening of the Redemption Arcade are scheduled to be outlined next Monday at a meeting scheduled for the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston. Conditions for occupancy of the premises, the mayor said, are also expected to be addressed at Monday's meeting.

At the same time, the mayor said that the KSAC would be embarking on a new vendor registration on April 1 and urged vendors that they must be registered to sell in Kingston and St Andrew.
