LIME gives $1m to AIDS foundation
Thursday, February 02, 2012
THE Jamaica Business Council on HIV/AIDS (JABCHA) national foundation has received a major boost to their fundraising efforts with a $1 million contribution from the LIME Jamaica Foundation.
The JABCHA national foundation was launched last year with a mandate to secure financing to sustain Jamaica’s national HIV/STI programme which is currently funded mostly by global donors. With international funding scheduled to end, the private sector has taken up the task of securing support to keep the programme running.
The LIME Jamaica Foundation donation comes in support of the JABCHA’s drive to raise at least $1 billion to shore up the shortfall that will be left when global funding is discontinued.
LIME says the contribution continues their longstanding tradition of supporting charities and initiatives dedicated to HIV/AIDS prevention as well as efforts to end discrimination against persons living with the disease.
“As one of the country’s largest corporate entities we have always been at the forefront of the drive to end discrimination against persons with HIV/AIDS, particularly in the workplace, and we have continually provided support for organisations that are helping persons who are living with the disease,” said Errol Miller, chairman of the LIME Jamaica Foundation.
The JABCHA national foundation was launched by Ambassador Eric Goosby, US global AIDS coordinator in July 2011 with the support of USAID and the US Ambassador to Jamaica, Pamela Bridgewater. It operates under the patronage of the Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen.
