Luciano's trial now set for March 17
Friday, February 05, 2010
The trial of reggae singer Luciano, who is charged with harbouring a criminal, was Tuesday rescheduled for March 17 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.
The artiste, whose birth name is Jepther McClymont, had his bail extended when he appeared in court.
He was charged in March 2009 following a shooting incident between the police and a wanted man, Andrew Senior, at his (Luciano's) studio at Westminster Crescent in St Andrew.
Police said they went to the studio in search of Senior, who was wanted for several counts of shooting and murder. Police reported that Senior engaged the cops in a gunfight in which he was killed and three policemen injured.
McClymont was subsequently arrested and charged with harbouring the fugitive as a part of his security team.
However, the singer has denied reports indicating that he had known about Senior's criminal background and had employed him as a bodyguard.
The entertainer is well known for songs such as Lord Give Me Strength and It's Me Again, Jah.
