Man accused of bribing police charged
Thursday, February 02, 2012
A 26-year-old security guard of Llandilo, Savanna-la-Mar in Westmoreland was Saturday arrested and charged with breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act on Saturday.
The Savanna-la-Mar police reported that on January 24 officers were on patrol when a Toyota Corolla motor car was seen parked on the Brighton main road in the parish. They made checks and the accused, Kemiear Rankin, and another man came out of the motor vehicle.
"When Rankin was asked to produce his documents, he reportedly ran. The motor vehicle was checked and the chassis number was found to be invalid and the [licence] plate was not assigned," the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) said in a report.
Rankin, the CCN said, allegedly made contact with a police officer some time later and offered $15,000. He was subsequently arrested during a sting operation. He is to appear in the Savanna-la-Mar Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, February 7.
