Man accused of trying to ship ganja to Barbados
A man who was reportedly caught trying to ship 81 pounds of ganja to Barbados hidden in a metal vault was remanded into custody when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court Friday.
The accused, Carlton Henry, was arrested at the Norman Manley International Airport on December 6 after he reportedly went to the cargo section to ship off the item.
The cops were reportedly alerted to the drugs by a sniffer dog and Henry was arrested and charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, taking preparatory steps to export ganja and conspiracy to export ganja.
However, when Henry appeared before Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly-Williams, he disputed the allegations.
Henry told the court that he was at the airport when a woman contacted him and asked him to ship the vault but he told her that he could not do it as he did not have any identification.
He said the woman, who had sent the vault in a safe to the airport, then asked him to check on the price to do the shipment and that was when the police held on to him.
The prosecution, however, told the court that Henry is pretending that he had no knowledge about the drugs but he was found with $62,000, which is believed to have been the payment for carrying out the transaction.
The magistrate then remanded Henry into custody.
He is to return to court on February 1.
