KINGSTON, Jamaica — Members of the public and police looked on nervously yesterday as a man allegedly of unsound mind climbed to the top of the Half-Way-Tree Transport Centre in St Andrew.
"The man came out of nowhere and just started to climb the structure before you know it he was on the top," said one startled woman.
The anxious moment was short lived after the man, clad in jeans shorts and without shoes, walked across the top of the a steel frame roof then returned to the ground.
He was quickly collared by security personnel who had gathered to witness the spectacle.
After he was held the man sat on the sidewalk and stared in a daze as police and security personnel fired several questions at him.
"He could have been killed the rain just fell and the place is wet, he could have easily slipped and fell to his death," a bystander shouted.
Police up to late yesterday were still carrying out investigations.
The Transportation Centre houses a bus station on two levels and a 900 square metre terrace providing a central hub for buses serving Kingston commuters on various routes.
