COURTNEY Linton, the police constable who allegedly shot and killed a colleague during a dance on Christmas Day is scheduled to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on March 21 for a preliminary hearing.
The date was set yesterday when Linton appeared in court with his attorney Christopher Townsend. Linton's $300,000 bail was also extended by Senior Magistrate's Judith Pusey.
Linton, who was assigned to the Flying Squad, is charged with the murder of Constable Shawn Howe of the May Pen Police Station.
According to court documents, Howe was shot around 6:45 pm on the day in question in an open lot on D'Aguilar Road, off Waltham Park Road in Kingston, where he went to urinate.
Linton reportedly approached Howe and said something to him, causing Howe to shout out, "Police"! Linton allegedly pulled his firearm, pointed it at Howe and fired a shot.
It was also alleged that while Howe was lying on the ground Linton went over him and fired another shot but was challenged by other policemen on the scene.
