Maxfield Avenue water flow to ease today

THE Jamaica Wells and Services Limited says the steady flow of water that has been a source of inconvenience for motorists and pedestrians using Maxfield Avenue in Kingston over the past two days, should ease today.

According to President James Simpson, the company has been carrying out tests on the water quality and volume capacity of a 315-foot deep well that was recently drilled at premises on 9 Ballater Avenue

in Kingston.

"We have done a 24-hour test to test the water capacity at different levels, but we are currently doing a 72-hour test where we are required to pump 700 gallons of water per minute from the well, so the water runs off on the road," Simpson told the Observer yesterday.

"We got some complaints about the water on the road, but we have nowhere else for it to go. By the time we become a real nuisance this will be over," he said.

Simpson said that both tests which were being observed by representatives from the Water Resources Authority, are mandatory as the company will have to pass the test before a licence for extraction of water can be granted.

If the licence is issued, Simpson said that the company will be able to produce one million gallons of water per day.
