Mayor likely to address retreat at today's council meeting
Tuesday, October 09, 2012
MAYOR of Kingston Councillor Angella Brown-Burke is expected to address the outcome of last month's retreat by officers and councillors of the Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) at today's monthly council meeting.
Concerns have been raised by the public and the media since newcomer JLP Councillor Duane Smith announced that he would be boycotting the retreat in September. Smith cited excessive expenditure in staging the retreat at the Riu Ocho Rios Hotel, instead of in Kingston.
Councillor Smith, who represents the new Chancery Hall Division in his father's (Derrick Smith's) North West St Andrew constituency since March, accused the mayor of misplaced priorities, and claimed that the council was "squandering much-needed resources" while neglecting communities in need of attention.
The KSAC Council meets on the second Tuesday of each month.
