ST ANN, Jamaica – Four men charged for the murder of a Canadian national in Runaway Bay, St. Ann earlier this month were remanded when they appeared in court today.

Thirty-six-year-old Gavin Campbell was reportedly at the Valley High Villa at Cardiff Hall Runaway Bay in the parish on July 7, with several other family members when gunmen invaded the premises.

The men, who were also armed with machetes, knives and other offensive weapons reportedly, demanded money, jewellery and other valuables from the occupants. Some family members resisted and during a reported fight with the robbers Campbell was shot.

He was pronounced dead at hospital. One of the robbers was also seriously wounded during the incident.

Following investigations, police charged 20-year-old Lorenzo McDonald, 22-year-old Mark Brown, Kevin Bailey, 22 and 20-year-old Eric Ramgeet all of Runaway Bay addresses, for the murder.

The men are also facing charges of assault with intent to rob, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, shooting with intent, conspiracy to rob and unlawful wounding.

They appeared in the St. Ann’s Bay Resident Magistrate’s court this morning, but were remanded until August 10 when the matter will again be mentioned.
