Friday, September 07, 2012 | 1:38 PM

KINGSTON, Jamaica — American Aries Merritt broke the men’s 110m hurdles world record at the Brussels Diamond League today.

Jamaican Hansle Parchment finish third and it wasn’t until Merrit’s 12.80 seconds flashed across the screen that it was understood why Parchment was so far behind the winner.

Another American, Jason Richardson, was second in 13.04.

Merritt is the Olympic champion.

The previous record of 12.87 was held by Cuba’s Dayron Robles.
