Fire engulfs this two-storey house at 35 Gardenia Avenue, Mona, St Andrew yesterday evening after the owner tried to gas a generator as the property was still without electricity, two days after the passage of Hurricane Sandy. The owner said he made attempts to put out the fire just after it started, but was unable to prevent it from spreading. At least two units responded to the emergency, but firefighters who arrived with the first unit had a challenge putting out the blaze as their hoses were leaking and they were unable to locate any fire hydrant close to the inferno.
