Motor vehicle examiner, office attendant on fraud rap

Saturday, October 20, 2012

A senior examiner and an office attendant employed to the Morant Bay Motor Vehicle Examination Depot were yesterday arrested and charged with breaches of the

Anti-Corruption Act.

The two, Linden Simpson and office attendant Icina Colley, were held during a near 12-hour operation, which began late Thursday.

Head of the Police Traffic Department, Senior Superintendent (SSP) Radcliffe Lewis said the operation was conducted by a combined team from the Traffic Department, Revenue Protection Division, Mobile Reserve, and the Anti-Corruption Branch.

"Both persons were arrested and charged with breaches of the Anti-Corruption Act in the operation which led to the seizure of several fraudulent document," Lewis said.

The police have alleged that a major racket, where fitness certificates are being issued without vehicles being examined, is operating out of the depot.

Police said Simpson and Colley are scheduled to appear in court

on Wednesday.
