BYRON Powell displays an oversized guava he reaped from his backyard in Pembroke Hall, St Andrew, yesterday.
The backyard farmer told the Jamaica Observer that he planted the tree (right) in September 2012 and was surprised when it began flowering in June. He said the two-and-a-quarter-pound fruit is one of two the small tree produced. The other, though not yet mature, is also bigger than the average guava.
"People keep asking me what is my secret, but all I did was to take care of the plant," he told the Observer.
The 56-year-old farmer says he speaks to his plants on a regular basis during the days. (PHOTOS: JOSEPH WELLINGTON)
