NCC to be separated from OCG
Contracts commission to have control over related funds and resources
Jamaica Observer
Thursday, November 18, 2010
CABINET has approved the separation of the National Contracts Commission (NCC) from the Office of the Contractor General.
"The decision was made on November 8 to encourage best practices within both Government organisations in the management of technical staff, approval and verseeing of the award of Government contracts and the registration of prospective contractors," said a statement from Jamaica House this morning.
Minister with Responsibility for Information, Daryl Vaz, told this week's post-Cabinet press briefing that both organisations will be legally separated when an amendment to the Contractor General's Act is passed allowing the NCC to have control over related funds and resources.
The secretariat of the NCC will be financed from fees collected from all contracts awarded.
