KINGSTON, Jamaica - The Guest Accommodation Room Tax (GART) is now in effect the Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) has announced.
The tax came into effect last Saturday, September 1 following an announcement by the Finance minister on June 6, 2012.
GART is a room tax and means that operators of guest accommodations, including hotels, villas and resort cottages, are required to collect and pay it to TAJ regardless of being licensed under the Tourist Board Act.
It’s to be charged on any room that’s furnished for sleeping and occupied per night or shorter duration.
People are being encouraged to contact TAJ for clarification.
