Tuesday, August 28, 2012 | 4:27 PM

MIAMI, USA (AP) — A new tropical depression has formed in the Atlantic as Hurricane Isaac closes in on the Gulf Coast.

The new depression has maximum sustained winds near 35 mph (55 kph) and the US National Hurricane Centre says it could strengthen to a tropical storm in the next day or so. The Hurricane Centre says it's not a threat to land.

The depression is centred about 1,270 miles (2,045 kilometres) east-northeast of the Lesser Antilles and is moving west-northwest near 10 mph (17 kph).
