Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is delighted by a gift from New Zealand's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Sport Recreation Murray McCully at a meeting Wednesday at Jamaica House. The minister heads a delegation exploring areas for the deepening of relations and cooperation between Jamaica and New Zealand. He told the prime minister that he has been promoting the idea of a closer linkage between the Pacific Island Forum and the Caribbean Community (Caricom) to explore areas of climate change, agriculture and fisheries as he believes that if both regions strengthen their cooperation, much more can be achieved. Simpson Miller welcomed the initiative, noting that for Caricom to be part of a larger organisation that can make better representation for the countries at the United Nations, is a welcomed move.
