No arrest in death of Jamaican nurse in Cayman

DETECTIVES in the Cayman Islands are yet to make an arrest in the suspected murder of Jamaican nurse Kerran (Kerry-Ann) Baker.

It was reported last November by the Cayman Islands media that a man was in custody "on suspicion of murder, following a police operation in the Prospect area".

The police declined in a statement to give details on the incident and did not name the suspect.

But yesterday, Janet Dougall, public relations officer at the Cayman Islands Criminal Investigative Branch headquarters, told the Observer that the man had been released without charge and that the probe into Baker's disappearance and possible murder continues.

Baker, 25, a practical nurse, disappeared from her apartment on Arrow Drive in Bodden Town on the evening of Saturday, July 31. She was last seen last on CCTV footage in a Cayman Islands supermarket around 7:00 pm.

Several major searches have failed to locate Baker, who had been in the Cayman Islands three years prior to her disappearance. Her white Honda Civic motor car was found later, with her car keys and what appeared to be blood smear, nearby.

Her groceries, which she apparently purchased at the supermarket, were also found in her ransacked apartment.

Detectives from the UK had been assisting with the investigations.
