No completion date set for Witter's Tivoli incursion report
KINGSTON, Jamaica - The much-anticipated report on the 2010 Tivoli Gardens incursion is still not finished and a completion date has not be set, according to a statement from Parliament today.
The Parliamentary Committee met with Public Defender, Earl Witter, on January 22 to determine the status of the report.
And based on that meeting’s outcome, a completion date could not be determined, the statement said.
A team from the Houses of Parliament will monitor the report’s progress to ensure it is finished in the shortest possible time, the statement added.
In May 2010 the security forces entered Tivoli Gardens in search of Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke who was wanted for extradition to the United States on gun and drug-related charges.
According to reports more than 70 people died during the incursion which saw residents complain of extrajudicial killings and excessive use of force by lawmen.
