KINGSTON, Jamaica – OBSERVER ONLINE readers have expressed disappointment at the Government's sudden push to do roadworks in and around the Corporate Area ahead of the US President Barrack Obama’s visit to the island.
Most of the readers think President Obama should make regular trips to Jamaica so the infrastructure can be improved and maintained.

Here are some of the readers’ comments on the issue:

Nathan777: It takes the high level visit of the leader of the free world, the US President, before our infrastructure is repaired and replaced. We should be so much ashamed, if it were not for the visit of the US President, then these roads and high-quality security drills and operations would not have taken place. I wish international leaders would visit more often, so we could have better roads and security.

Bobo: Was this approved by the IMF?

Dg: I do respect and admire the work of Mr Obama, but it is so unfortunate that it will take his visit to repair some of our road network. The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Lg: My ONLY request is "please maintain these newly refurbished roads". Cost less in the long run.

Elory Henry: It will have to be repaved shortly because the drainage was not addressed. Then again, time would not allow for that as President Obama will be here in the next two days.

Glorona: Where did the money come from all of a sudden. The roads have been dreadful for years.

Bulletin: The Gov't should be ashamed the Jamaica public is badly in need of good roads from how long and now dem see fit to fix it, it's a real shame. I feel like my nasty neighbour, who noh see it necessary fi clean har place until visitors are about to show up. My tax dollars noh worth nothing apparently, gas tax n all kmt.

Kennethreeves: It will be interesting to see what will happen, after Mr Obama's visit. Will it then be that there is absolutely no funds to fix another road?

Derrickanthony: Where is the money coming to fix these roads that the POTUS Obama will,or will not travel on? The citizens of Jamaica, have to travel on the bad roads daily, why not POTUS Obama also? As citizens of Jamaica who pay taxes, this gesture does not look good to the average person. Jamaicans who must travel on these roads daily are important also. Welcome POTUS Obama, I wish you will come to Jamaica, and visit all parish, and local communities all over Jamaica.
