Observer launches BlackBerry app
Homegrown news combines with homegrown technology
Monday, June 13, 2011
AVAILABLE today, readers of the Observer can begin reading their favourite daily newspaper and stay up-to-date with the latest news via our new and free BlackBerry app.
Developed in partnership with the Jamaican company Software Architects Limited, users can conveniently read and share content via the app, which is available via the BlackBerry App World Store. You can also download our app by scanning the code displayed on this page and in advertisements.
We believe that its clean layout and fresh look will ensure that you find the app easy to use. With saving your handset's memory and battery in mind, the app has a small download size and is designed to close every time you exit, which frees up space on your phone and ensures you won't have to stay close to your charger.
Before downloading, ensure that your phone is using version 4.7 and above of the BlackBerry operating system. After downloading and opening the app you can customise it via the BlackBerry menu, which you can open by pressing the BlackBerry button on your handset.
Among the options, you can choose to have the app load with images — the default setting is without images in order for it to run faster. You can also set the font size and control what content you want to see on the home screen — for instance, you might also want to add environment or career news — it's all at your fingertips.
Meanwhile, persons without BlackBerrys can also continue to enjoy speedy access to the Observer mobile site via the WAP browser on your handset at the following address: http://m.jamaicaobserver.com/mobile/
