Sunday, February 05, 2012
SEVENTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD Violet Lynch of Greenwich Road, Kingston 13 was killed while standing at a bus stop in Cross Roads, St. Andrew this morning.
Reports are that about 7:00 a.m., the driver of a Toyota Corolla motor car was proceeding along Retirement Road, when he allegedly overtook a motor vehicle which had stopped at the traffic sign. The driver of the Toyota Corolla motor car, 52-year-old Alvin Mitchell of Russell Road, Kingston 5, then reportedly collided with a SsangYong motor car, which hit Lynch, pinning her to a wall. Lynch and the three occupants of the SsangYong motor vehicle were taken to hospital where Lynch was admitted, but later succumbed to her injuries.
Mitchell is in police custody and has been charged with disobeying a traffic signal, dangerous driving and causing death by dangerous driving. He is to answer to these charges in the Traffic Court tomorrow.
Warning notices have been served on both drivers pending further investigations by the Cross Roads Police.
