PNPYO wants youth in JEEP

Thursday, February 09, 2012

THE People’s National Party Youth Organisation (PNPYO) is calling on the Government to strategically tailor a part of the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme (JEEP) for youths.

According to Junior Rose, president of the PNPYO, it is imperative to have a section of the JEEP tailored to young people as there currently is a high level of unemployment (over 24%) among this group.

This is higher than the national average, he said.

Rose said there are a number of qualified, skilled and semi-skilled young people that could benefit from this programme.

“The government indicated that it has identified at least $4 billion for JEEP; this could see hundreds of young people being engaged and employed if it embarks on a special programme for youth in the JEEP,” Rose said in a statement.
