KINGSTON, Jamaica — Police say the driver who fled the scene of a fatal crash in Half-Way-Tree, St Andrew, Monday afternoon is still on the run.

The single-vehicle crash, involving a Toyota Coaster passenger bus, claimed the life of 18-year-old student Melissa Thompson and injured five others.

The dead teenager is of a Queen’s Way address in Willowdene, St Catherine.

"The search is still on for this man," said head of the Police Traffic Department Radcliffe Lewis.

Lewis also revealed that the man driving the minibus at the time of the crash was not the driver assigned to the vehicle.

"Information we received is that the original driver of the bus handed over the vehicle to the man who later lost control of the vehicle," said Lewis.

He added that the police are also seeking the original driver of the bus.
