Police solicits money from motorist, charged

Friday, August 17, 2012 | 1:17 PM

KINGSTON, Jamaica —The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) today charged a police corporal attached to the St Elizabeth Division, and an unemployed man of Steven Run district in the parish for breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.

They are police corporal Clayton James, 41, and Oswald Pinto, 45.

The police action follows a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) that both men be charged for the breaches.

The police report that both men were arrested during a sting operation carried out by members of the ACB on Monday August 13.

They said the corporal corruptly solicited money from a motorist in order not to prosecute him for an offence under the Road Traffic Act.

Pinto, who is a friend of the policeman, was sent to collect the money from the motorist and both men were held.

James and Pinto are to appear before the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate’s Court later today.
