OCHO RIOS, St Ann – A police constable was shot and killed and another lawman wounded as police personnel reportedly traded bullets at the Ocho Rios Police Station in St Ann last night.
The dead cop has been identified as Sheldon Williams otherwise called 'Sylvan' of the police armoury in Kingston and Gayle, St Mary.
It is still not clear the circumstances which led the police personnel to be engaged in the gunfight which started about 10:00 pm inside the police station.
The shootout, which lasted for about two minutes, ended a few metres away near the Ocho Rios bypass where Williams collapsed after he was shot.
The shooting incident has been confirmed by the police, but there has been no official report yet about the incident.
Constable Williams was killed following a series of events which reportedly started at a party on a boat in Ocho Rios waters, where he was alleged to have discharged several rounds from his firearm during the party.
Other police on the boat had reportedly warned the constable for prosecution and he was later picked up by a police team as he disembarked the boat and was taken to the police station for processing.
