A prisoner is now on the run after he escaped from custody at the National Chest Hospital in St Andrew, while being treated for the highly contagious tuberculosis.

He is Christopher Bowen, who is charged for illegal possession of firearm and robbery with aggravation.

He is of dark complexion, medium build and about 180 centimetres (5 feet 11 inches) tall. At the time he eluded the wardens, he was wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and black and white sneakers.

Information received from the Matilda’s Corner Police is that about 12:15 pm while under the guard of the Correctional Services, Bowen managed to remove his hands from handcuffs and escaped.

The police are now pleading with his friends and relatives and other members of the public not to harbour Bowen, as he poses a threat to the public’s health.

Persons with information are being asked to contact the Matilda’s Corner Police at 978-6003, police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.
