JAMAICA Observer online readers were bowled over by local songstress Tessanne Chin's spectacular performance on American talent show The Voice on Tuesday night. Chin wowed the four celebrity coaches in top musicians Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton with a soulful performance of US singer Pink's hit song Try. She received high praises from the coaches, who agreed that she could easily win the competition. At the end of it all she picked Levine, the lead singer of pop rock band Maroon 5, to be her coach. Here are some edited comments:
Changes are good. Different style of music from Jamaican showed how much we are versatile. Much love and respect Tess.
Sounds great! We wish her all the best. (Can anyone tell us what happened to the previous season's winners?)
@Errol K: They're all doing quite well, with albums released etc.
I was so proud I was beside myself. She spoke clearly and boldly and politely and it was all Jamaican. Unapologetically Jamaican. Thank you Tessanne. What a lesson for us and the world! And, I am not talking about 'voice' lessons either. Bless up!
That performance was just awesome! All mi a seh, Jamaicans in di US, wen a voting time mek wi lite up di phone dem 'cause wi affi support wi girl. She blaze it up!
Well done Tessanne, make us proud.
Big smile. Really happy about this.
Congrats, Miss Chin; you represented yourself, your family and friends, and your country well. That was a great performance. Note to Jamaicans aspiring to these and other things: See how yuh can rep yuself an yuh country when you can communicate well?
Love it! Pure Jamaican class!
Tessanne, with all the negatives happening in Jamaica, yu mek mi heart skip a beat with excitement. Seeing you represent Jamaica so proudly was a treat. Nuff guidance and no doubt u will be first across the finish line.
Someone please explain, why is it any where in the world we Jamaicans go we EXCEL once we put our minds to it. (EXCEPT AT HOME IN JAMAICA). Why as a nation, together we cannot move forward? WHY?
@GUEST 2.5: This may sound cliché, but it is the truth; it's the system. It's designed to keep us down so that those with the power remain in power. Some of us have not yet emancipated ourselves from the mental slavery. So down we shall remain.
@GUEST 2.5: Because Jamaican life and culture is designed to hold back the poor and ambitious. Only the rich and famous flourish here.
Good Job Tess... wish you all the best.
Congrats Tessanne. I missed The Voice last night, but thank God for YouTube, I was able to see your performance over and over again. You are a great singer and I wish you all the success in the competition.
I was shouting and jumping and behaving DI MOST WAYS in my house last night. So incredibly proud! #TeamTessanne
There are so many avenues to excel in music and entertainment but some of the music being produced locally, with the exception of a few, are classless, tasteless and rather disgusting and only set on three themes -- gays, sex-in the most disgusting ways, and guns. Thank you Tessanne for bringing hope to a flat and failing, and backward music industry. Hope producers and artistes are taking note.
Tessanne you were a star so just continue to shine and you will get it. You have what it takes so just put your mind to it and success will be all yours. Is there anyway we can vote from Jamaica?
You go girl! You did an awesome job!
Honesty & Truth
From the picture, Mr Chin must be one extremely proud and elated father. Go all the way and win it Tessanne! You are the singing "Voice" of Jamaica.
Congratulations, my girl. And all the best to you.
I am sooo proud of Tessanne! What impressed me the most was her politeness! As my grandmother would say, "shi full ah mannas"! And then, she didn't try to put on airs: she spoke clearly, audibly and in her own Jamaican tone. Job well done, Mr & Mrs Chin! Mi proud bag (an' di glad one too) did really buss lass' night!
That is so great. I hope you win. Love you.
She has been a good vocalist all along but some ppl just wagon up di ting, dats what I don't like. How many of who on the bandwagon actually listen to her music?
@RAY: Doesn't matter, this is to give her and us the exposure that great things are still in and happening in Jamaica. So bring on the wagonnists. So long as she keeps shining.
@RAY: So you would rather ppl not show support than jump on the wagon? I'm happy they got on the wagon; the more ppl on her wagon, the more votes she'll get. Go Tess! #jussaying
Nice! You held your own girl. You and sis all grown up now. Musically talented family from my church days.
Very strong performance! And she represented us well. Go Tessanne!

Congrats Tessanne. Watching you last night sent shivers of pride through my body! You made us all proud!
