JAMAICA Football Federation (JFF) general secretary, Horace Reid, has been appointed to serve on FIFA’s Beach Soccer Standing Committee.

He joins JFF president Captain Horace Burrell (Olympic Committee) and senior team coach Theodore Whitmore (Football Committee) as the other Jamaicans who currently hold FIFA appointments. Reid, a veteran and respected administrator of the game, said he was “humbled and pleased” by his FIFA calling.

“For me it represents recognition by the world governing body of the quality and quantity of administrative work being done by the Jamaica Football Federation. The JFF is truly blessed with the quality of support staff, technocrats, advisers and expertise at its disposal and for me these appointments reflect a collective effort that is focused and driven,” said Reid yesterday.

"It is always a proud feeling whenever Jamaica's reputation is enhanced at the international level and on the world stage, whether on the field of play or off it,” he added.

Reid, who served as JFF general secretary two periods (1997 to 2003 and 2007 to present), has also served on a number of committees at the CFU and CONCACAF levels, including his current chairmanship of CONCACAF's administration committee. In 2005, Reid was appointed for a two-year term as a FIFA Stadium Inspector.

Also, due to FIFA's experiences and impression with Jamaica's football administration over the past four years, the world governing body has selected Jamaica to form part of its Extranet pilot project. In this regard FIFA extended a special invitation to Reid to serve as part of the Extranet Pilot.

The Extranet pilot is a programme geared at revolutionising the method FIFA uses to disseminate information via cyber space to allow for greater accessibility by its 208-member countries and six confederations. Reid will travel to Zurich in late August to attend the first meeting of the Extranet Pilot.

The FIFA Beach Soccer Committee is chaired by Brazilian Marco Del Nero and is responsible for the organisation of FIFA Beach Soccer World Championships and for charting and promoting the development of beach soccer around the world.

Russia dethroned Brazil to become world champions at the 2011 Beach Soccer World Cup staged in Ravenna, Italy.

Jamaica, who are currently preparing for qualifiers at the CONCACAF level for 2013 FIFA Beach World Cup, will participate in a friendly tournament in Trinidad & Tobago between July 26-29.
