Retired cop shot, injured in St Andrew

Monday, September 17, 2012

RETIRED Senior Superintendent Anthony 'Tony' Hewitt was attacked and shot multiple times by thugs on Donmair Avenue, which runs off Red Hills Road, in St Andrew yesterday.

The incident happened at approximately 1:00 pm and the seriously injured policeman was rushed to hospital.

"He is still in hospital and the police is on the scene. Other than that the information is sketchy," an officer from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) told the Jamaica Observerlate yesterday.

In a release, Police Commissioner Owen Ellington offered his sympathy to Hewitt's family and urged investigators to "work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice."

He also wished the retired policeman "a speedy recovery".
