Sandals to honour community stalwarts

KINGSTON, Jamaica —Sandals Resorts International today launched the inaugural Butch Stewart Community Awards, which will honour unsung heroes across Jamaica who have devoted their lives to service and community development.

The awards will be presented in 10 categories:

• Health Services;

• Youth Achievers;

• Education;

• Farming and Agriculture;

• Social Work;

• Volunteerism;

• Community Growth and Development;

• Arts and Cultural Preservation;

• Protective Services; and

• Entrepreneurship

Nominations will open on Friday, May 9 and close on June 9. Jamaicans who have received a national award are exempted from the awards.

Addressing the launch, Stewart, the chairman of the ATL Group of companies, which includes this newspaper, said he was “honoured that my name is associated with an award such as this”.
