Scrap metal dealers have to wait

Friday, August 24, 2012 | 5:28 PM

KINGSTON, Jamaica — There’s still no word on when the scrap metal trade will resume.

Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Anthony Hylton, met with members of the Scrap Metal Federation today, however no commitment was given on when the trade would resume.

Instead, the ministry says it is currently assessing 48 sites, which may serve as off-loading areas, should approval be given for scrap metal operations to restart.

Scrap metal dealers had objected to the ministry’s proposal that one central site be used for off-loading.

The ministry and the Federation should meet again next week to discuss the findings.
