TWENTY-nine-year-old Terrence McPherson, otherwise known as 'T', who was identified as the main suspect in the recent murders in St Thomas, was today shot dead by police and soldiers during a shootout on Lyndhurst Crescent in St Andrew.
McPherson took over leadership of the Gwaalers Gang following last week's demise of then leader, Rupert 'Killer Miller' Wallace. He was alleged to have attacked residents of the Stanton Housing Scheme and Retreat district, in reprisal against Wallace's death.
He was figured prominently in the murders of Franklyn McCalla and an unidentified woman whose headless bodies were found in nearby districts in the parish.
The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) said that about 3:30 pm, the Joint Task Force (JTF) went to Lyndhurst Crescent in search of McPherson. When the police arrived on the scene they came under heavy gunfire by a group of men including McPherson.
The JTF returned fire and McPherson's body was discovered after the shootout ended. A .380 semi automatic pistol with 8 rounds of ammunition was taken from him.
