Security guard killed in Mandeville
By GARFIELD MYERS
Tuesday, July 17, 2012 | 9:23 AM
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Police say a security guard was found dead early today – apparently murdered – while on duty at Lane Plaza on Manchester Road.
The police have not released his name but say his body was found about 6:30 am.
“We are not yet sure how he was killed, it may have been a knife, a blunt instrument, we are not sure,” a police spokesman said.
In response to news of the incident, Assistant Commissioner of Police Derrick Cochrane, head of Police Area Three (Manchester, Clarendon and St Elizabeth) said security companies should take greater care in how their personnel are deployed.
Cochrane said indications are that in this latest incident the security guard was working alone and was unarmed.
“There has to be better risk assessment,” said Cochrane. “At the very least there should be a minimum of two guards on duty.”
