Sentencing delayed...again

Friday, August 24, 2012

PARENTS of the two-year-old boy whose decomposing body was found in a suitcase at their Kingston home have another week before they will know their fate.

The couple, Alphanso and Stephanie Warren, who pleaded guilty to failure to bury a child and concealment of death, will return to court for sentencing on August 30.

They were scheduled for sentencing in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday, but the matter was postponed after Magistrate Maxine Ellis was informed that the social enquiry report was not yet complete.

Another development in the case is that the couple, who has been unable to take up their bail — originally reduced to $100,000 — was granted a further reduction, to $50,000. They were initially offered bail of $300,000 each.

The two were taken into custody and charged after neighbours stormed their home on January 15 and found Jeshurun's body in a suitcase. The residents reportedly became concerned after noticing that the child had not been seen for some time.

A post mortem later revealed that the child had died from natural causes.
