Sniffer dogs for Tivoli Gardens

Body found believed to be that of missing cop

BY DONNA HUSSEY-WHYTE Observer staff reporter husseyd@jamaicaobserver.com

Friday, June 18, 2010

FOLLOWING the discovery of a body buried in a shallow grave in Tivoli Gardens last week, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Les Green, says sniffer dogs are to arrive in the island from the United States to aid in the search of other bodies believed to be buried within the community.

“These dogs should have already been here so I am unable to say just when they will arrive,” ACP Green said.

Police on Wednesday, theorised that the body uncovered in Tivoli Gardens last week, is that of a District Constable attached to the St Andrew Central Division who went missing on May 23, a day before the onslaught in Tivoli Gardens.

He was, however, unwilling to give the name of the DC, as further tests are to be done on the corpse.

“We are still waiting for an autopsy as well as fingerprints and DNA samples in order to confirm this,” ACP Green told Chat! “But based on the items found with the body we believe it is that of the district constable.”

He said the dentures, along with uniform and watch belonging to the missing police man which were found along with the body, point to the missing cop.

It is believed that the officer went into the community to visit a friend when he was kidnapped, gagged,  killed, then given a quick burial, as thugs planned their attacks on the security forces.

I agree with you N. Smith. Many see Jamaicans abroad as ganja smoking, drug dealing criminals responsible for numerous murders in foreign countries. Should this brush be used to paint the entire island of Jamaica and by the reasoning of the blood thirsty posters here subject Jamaica to total annihilation by the rest of the world??? Maybe that should be the approach of the rest of the world to get rid of "those Jamaican thugs and criminals. Our friends here would be extremely happy I guess.

"He who is without sin cast the first stone." The mob mentality has obviously gotten the better of "Jamaica Land We Love". Those of you who believe that Tivoli should be demolished with all its people should consider how similar your way of thinking is to the thugs who reside there. Stay in your glass houses and throw stones because the way you regard Tivoli is exactly how the world community regards JAMAICA. So go on throw your stones. Create desolation and call it peace for you satisfaction

While we are at it, can we also get sniffer dogs to sniff out crooked politicians?

@Xavi Singh, Reading your comments, for the first time since the Tivoli Gardens incident, I felt compassion for the residents, I have not, in any of my comments, condemned any resident of Tivoli, but for the first time, I felt a tug at my heart, and was able to feel compassion for the people, I hope, and we should, impress upon the Govt. to rehabilitate the community so that the people can live in peace and be respected, thanks, I still don't know how your words had such an effect on me.

I bet you almost everyone in Tivoli saw when Prezi and his cronies ran away, some might even know where he is, but no one will say anything, because they see the forces as the enemy.
Mr Seaga has a right to come an say what a good place Tivoli is, because the criminals are smart, they don't commit crime in their area, it's peaceful, what they do is commit them in other areas and those areas get the bad name.

Think about it, it's because the state(government. mps, and the society n a whole neglected these people why it has reached this stage. In some places, people are living behind zinc fences, and no one cares or sees them, no education, few that have cannot get employment, because of the stigma attached to where they live, they must behave like animals. The Dons sees this opening, so they provide jobs, security e.t.c to these people, who will forever be loyal to them no matter what they do.

You cannot condemn the people, if you were born and grew up there you would be just like them, born come see. These people are brainwashed,Who will try to go around Prezi and the clique. What these people need are education, training, rehabilitation so that that can blend in with society and just be treated as humans and be given jobs, so that they can be independent, think for themselves and make decisions. Not only Tivoli, all the Garrisons.

They need a dog like mine. She can find every snail or bug in my garden and hold it there until I go to check.

@spectator spectator. For your information there are many dogs that serves better purpose on this earth than some human being. So yes the dogs will be treated very good. Don't compare them to some human beings.

Good move, pretty sure everyone will now see the wicked evil place called Tivoli gardens that Seaga has always touted as a good place.

@spectator sepctator, jamaica has long had a canine police division, these guys love their animals and know how to care for them...I'm just a bit surprised that they hadn't obtained cadaver (sp) dogs yet...

Am I to really believe this constable went into that area a day before the show with the extradition signed, to visit a friend?
It is amazing to me how many of you support U.S. law enforcement policing your national sovereignty. Let me be the first to say this: you are not Jamaican, you are Brtish subjects pining for the good ol' days of colonializm.
Where were all the U.S. law enforcment assistance when Coke's daddy was burnt alive in a jail cell controlled by the JCF/JDF British forces?

Spectator Spectator. I understand your concern for the SNIFFER DOGS but you need to know that these dogs are Police Officers. They also have a number as Police Officers do and are treated as such. They also work with a two footed Police Officer. In other words its a two footed Police Officer working with a four footed Police Officer. They go together. Therefore you have nothing to worry about. That dog will be treated just like a Police Officer.

Here we go again announcing the plan tell me now what do you think the criminal elements are going to do.

All of a sudden you need sniffer dogs from overseas, imagine you treat human beings like garbage, then how will you treat the dogs. JSPCA please take the dogs as they will end up mistreated or end up like some of the civilians. My thoughts are that you need cats for those rats we call politicians.

Some concerns, and questions still loom large, on these issues concerning Tivoli Gardens......Those inhuman, criminal, internationally recognized violations of humanity (Shallow Grave Burials), and obviously-connected executions..............Why has the relevant parties, namely Mr. Seaga, Mr. Golding, Mr. McKenzie, JFJ, Amnesty International, the United Nations, NOT COMMENTED/RESPONDED? Is this justice? When the security forces members fire a round, the world hears, SO WHAT ABOUT THIS?THESE

I hope by now we are also getting sniffer dogs to sniff out ammunition. They cannot snif out guns but most guns have in ammunition, so finding the ammunitions will inevitably lead to a much larger gun find. These are the quick, intelligent, decisive actions the police and military should be and I hope, are taking. They can lock down a community and carry in dogs to sniff out every creavice and corner. Action now Mr. Commissioner.

@James bond before other people jump on your comment, I am in full agreement with you they are like a rabied animal or worse. In addition to getting their DNA i think they need to do s scientific study of it ,it might yield some answers to what causes voilence in a person and consequently lawlessness.

I hope you will soon get the sniffer dogs. I am sure there will be many more bodies uncovered given what has been transpiring in that community - a safe haven for the disposal of bodies.
What a dirty bunch of brazen, backward savages. People who have no respect for the life and rights of other people.
Please keep up the pressure JCF & JDF. We cannot get our loved ones back but we sure can continue with the knowledge that they were victmized and we may be able to prevent it in the future.

But this DC was rather silly!! he was asking for that. Having said that people should be free to go anywhere at anytime without the fear of violence, intimidation and harassment. The people of Tivoli are really first class dirty bastards, this community should be demolished and the the people relocated elsewhere where they can be properly monitored. Their DNA and finger prints should be taken and they should all be denied a passport. The GOJ should act now before these people re-group.
