St Elizabeth Infirmary gets matron’s quarters

SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Matron of the St Elizabeth Infirmary here, Joycelyn Bryan, recently took possession of a three-bedroom house adjacent to the institution.

Bryan noted her relief, stating that she was previously forced to live a mile away from the infirmary and its residents because there was no accommodation for her there —in breach of the Poor Relief law.

As such, the matron said she struggled to respond to emergency calls at night because of safety considerations.

“Really, under the Poor Relief law, the matron should be living on the compound or near enough to the compound,” Bryan told the Jamaica

Observer Central.

A pleased local government minister, Noel Arscott, who participated in the ribbon cutting during a tour of St Elizabeth, said the house was completed by Government at a cost of $10 million.

“The work was done expeditiously and within budget,” the minister said.
