St Thomas cop for bail hearing

Monday, January 07, 2013

DWAYNE Smart, the police corporal charged with the murder of a pregnant woman in St Thomas, is to return to the Home Circuit Court this week for a bail application.

The application was to be made last month but postponed for the defence to obtain from the prosecution a videotape of the incident, which could be of assistance.

Attorney Valerie Neita-Robertson will make the application in chambers.

Smart is accused of shooting to death eight-month pregnant Kay-Ann Lamont in Yallahs in early September after he tried to arrest her for using indecent language.

Lamont's sister was also shot in the incident after she allegedly went to Kay-Ann's assistance.

A previous bail application has already been refused.
