As the Jamaica national football team prepare for their 'do or die' encounter with the United States on October 10, Jamaicans interviewed by the Sunday Observer last week were overwhelming in their view that Waterhouse Football Club forward Jermaine 'Tuffy' Anderson should start in that match.
Actually, we need a lot more 'Tuffy' Anderson pon the side. Tuffy plays the ball with a passion, with a heart, and he has a good attitude as a striker. We need a lot more players like that on the team. I am a striker too so I know how important that is. Winning a match is all about scoring goals. Nuh care how good the team plays you still need to score goals to win. That is what Tuffy has - the heart to move forward and score goals.
Yeah man, how you mean if Tuffy fi start? The other day we were going to lose and as him came on him score. How long dem ago fight Tuffy? Since him score everybody a run behind him. Tuffy bring a whole heap of chemistry to the ball game. Right now the chemistry is what the side is lacking. Him can bring that chemistry that we want.
I would say that he should start. As a player he has the stamina that we want to see in the game. The world is looking forward to seeing him play. If he was in the side we would get far more out of the team. He will bring more unity for the youths in the game. I know Tuffy from long time, and a lot of the youths on the side can actually learn from him. He is dedicated to the football and he has nothing to lose so he will go all out in that game.
Tuffy Anderson fi start. Right now he is the hottest baller in the country and you can't have the hottest baller in the country and him not starting on the national side. The rest of them not scoring any goals but as them put on Tuffy the other day him score. So why yuh nuffi start him in the next match?
Vincent 'Richie' Richards
Of course Tuffy fi start. I believe he has been unfairly treated. If I was the coach I would use him and local players on my team. Let them gel. What he brings to the team is motivation and a will power to show the world that we can win. Spirit is not the word that I am looking for; Tuffy brings confidence. He predicted that he would score in the third game that him play in and in the third game him score. You have to take those things into consideration.
Tuffy can play but them not to make him start. Him nuh betta than none of the other baller dem on the side. Him nuh have the skill that the rest of the other ballers them have. Tuffy can't start over Luton Shelton or Marlon King. Dem man deh have to start over him. I agree seh Tuffy fi inna the squad but he is not a starter. Give him a 15 minute run but not start. Him bring a lot of confidence and him have a whole heap of passion. Him can bring the best out of the team but that doesn't meant that him fi start.
Of course Tuffy should start. If it wasn't for him the other day we would have gone home already. I think them have him a suffer pon the bench too long. Is like is a fren ting dem a deal wid. We got a whole lot of exposure with Walter Boyd and those players back in the day and I think that Tuffy can help to expose Jamaican football to the world. If we have more people like Tuffy on the side that would certainly highlight Jamaica as a football country like how Bolt do track and field.
If it's for him to continue to get the exposure then that is alright, but to hype up the national team that will not work. Why them fight against dat youth for so long? As I said, the exposure is good for them but the national team really don't make it. They are not going anywhere. I think that if they search Jamaica they can find good players. The team that made it to the World Cup played with their hearts, this team not playing with their hearts. They are playing for money.
I don't think that he can bring the team go anywhere. Tuffy by himself cannot bring the team to certain places. It just can't happen. He is very determined though even though people say all kinds of bad things about him. He has proven them wrong and I like that determination about him.
