TA grants extension for bus men to wear badges
To meet with owners of buses involved in Manchester smash up
Wednesday, February 08, 2012
THE Transport Authority (TA) has granted a two-month extension, for public passenger vehicle operators in rural Jamaica to become compliant with the badge requirement.
The deadline is now May 1.
The suspension of prosecution for public passenger vehicle operators in rural parishes, not in possession of badges, follows a meeting with representatives of umbrella taxi associations yesterday in Kingston.
The TA is continuing a series of meetings to sensitise stakeholders on the requirements for the licensing period which begins on February 13, and will start a slate of parish meetings to provide additional information on the procedures for badges, route rationalisation and other matters pertinent to public transportation.
The TA says will also meet with the owners of the two public passenger vehicles involved in a collision yesterday morning along the Pen Hill main road in Manchester, in which 44 persons were injured. The Authority has warned that action will be taken against anyone found to have jeopardised the safety of the commuting public and in particular children.
