TVJ's Kay Osborne quits

Thursday, February 02, 2012

KAY Osborne, the general manager of Television Jamaica (TVJ) who steered the station to unprecedented levels of profitability, has resigned from that position.

It's understood that Osborne handed in her resignation late last month. However, TVJ's parent company, the RJR Communications Group, remained silent on the issue until yesterday when managing director, Gary Allen confirmed that Osborne had tendered her resignation, which takes effect at the end of this month.

Speaking with the Observer, Allen dismissed claims that Osborne's resignation was triggered by differences with other directors over the company's strategic direction.

He also denied reports that Osborne had chosen to walk away because of her displeasure over a redundancy carried out last month.

According to Allen, the argument is baseless, as TVJ's employees were not affected by the redundancy.

In that redundancy, approximately 30 positions were made redundant in what the company described as a reorganisation.

TVJ is the RJR Group's main revenue and profit source as it controls 70 per cent free-to-air market share and 76 per cent overall television market share.

Under Osborne's leadership, TVJ widened its viewership spread with rival CVM. TVJ and also built the Caribbean's largest portfolio of local programmes.

Efforts to contact Osborne for comment were unsuccessful up to Observer press time last night.
