CHESTER, St Ann — Homicide detectives in St Ann are continuing their probe into the murder of a well known taxi operator in the parish last night.

He has been identified as Newland Miles, 39, of Chester in St Ann and who operated on the Chester to St Ann's Bay route.

Residents in the usually quiet community heard loud explosions about 11:45 pm last night and summoned the police.

Investigators say on their arrival, they found Miles, who had just returned home from work, lying in a pool of blood inside his house with multiple bullet wounds.

He was rushed to the St Ann's Bay hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

Investigators have not yet established a motive for the killing.
