Taxi drivers protest in HWT

Thursday, August 16, 2012 | 10:57 AM

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Dozens of taxi operators lined up in Half-Way-Tree this morning to protest what they describe as unfair treatment by the Transport Authority.

The protesters, mostly men, who operate on routes in the Corporate Area, say their livelihood is being affected by the Transport Authority’s order that they limit the number of passengers carried to three.

They were previously allowed to carry four passengers.

Many operators said the Authority has stepped up its efforts just before the opening of the school term, and the move will significantly cut into their earnings.
