Tell the country what you inherited, PM orders ministers

BY ALESIA EDWARDS Observer staff reporter alesiae@jamaicaobserver.com

OCHO RIOS, St Ann — Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller says she has mandated all her ministers to tell Jamaica what they inherited when they took office and declared that her administration will not take the blame for what she said was "mismanagement" of the country under the previous Government.

"I'm asking all ministers to give an update to the country because we are not to accept the blame for the mismanagement of those who were before us," Simpson Miller told members of the ruling People's National Party's (PNP's) National Executive Council (NEC) at Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort in this north coast town on Sunday.

The NEC was having its first meeting since the PNP returned to power by defeating the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) 42-21 seats in the December 29, 2011 general election.

Simpson Miller also commended her ministers for already putting in long hours, saying that they were meeting the expectations of voters.

"I'm calling ministers at 10 o'clock and they are still in office and I'm still in office; don't let it cease; that's what the people voted for and why they voted for us," the prime minister said.

She also warned members of her administration against corruption, saying that it will not be tolerated because for each dollar that is misappropriated a Jamaican will be denied proper health care, education and other essential services.

"I can assure you, and I warn my team, corruption and inaction will not be tolerated by this Government," Simpson Miller said.

"One thing I want to warn everybody, not just ministers and ministers of state and senators and MPs, I want to warn councillors too, this administration will not tolerate rudeness, crudeness or arrogance," she added.

Simpson Miller acknowledged that some members of her team were "going through a difficult time", however, she advised them against acquiring new motor vehicles.

"Let us drive what we have, and if we break down on the road some good Jamaican will come and try to give us a push start," Simpson Miller urged.

If the pnp could just run the country in an organise way like how they run their party and stop promoting socalism and hand out they would be so good for jamaica but this redistrubution of wealth thing in my view seem to rob the ambitious and the working class and give to some people who thing jamaica owe them something.

Mrs. PM, the Jamaican people does not want to know what your party inherited, they have been living it. They want to see what you and your party can do to turn things around. So stop this nitpicking and get to work. All those promises Mrs. PM, we are waiting to see you and your group in action. Please don't start with excuses. A promise is a promise and we are holding you to those promises........Do your work and fulfill your promises. Father God, keep JA forever in your thoughts..

Bruce Golding and former JLP administration look, listen and learn . . . Until this day you still refuse to come clean with the adminstration that preceeded you.

If the PM would like, we can make a list of what the previous government inherited as well. We live in the information age, so the data is readily available. Where would you like us to begin? By the way, we thought you said that there would be no blame game? When portioning out blame for the past 4 years, don't forget the 18 previous years that laid the foundation for failure so well. We are 50 years old now, time to look ahead instead of behind.

Come on Miss Portia, no one should be in any darn office at 10 O'clock, unless its their own business. The electorate did not elect officials to work until 10 in night, unless of course they started at 6pm. Hopefully this is just the orientation, getting a taste of the work & projects that lie ahead. No one should have to work at 10pm unless they are nuts.

Mr. Golding look and learn ....Comrades never stop Campaigning!
Jamaica had to wait on WikiLeaks to learn that Comrades deliberately ran Jamaica into the ground and we we close to being the English Speaking Haiti of the Caribbean, over 18 years of various Comrade Governments,.

"I'm calling ministers at 10 o'clock and they are still in office and I'm still in office; don't let it cease; that's what the people voted for and why they voted for us,"
.
All that work and the country is still not moving forward. This looks to me like poor time management. I am sure there is also support staff that will get overtime pay.
.
Modern management practice says that overwork is not the way to go. People become less productive. Let them have a life.

Her ministers dont have to tell us what they inherited, we can c clearly 4 ourselves and we've made a record of such. And in 4/5 years time we'll be in a position to compare (annually). I.E. Low interest rates; 6% inflation rate; stable dollar; low crime rate which is begining 2 rise since da start of 2012; generally stable economy, etc.
Give thanks for the ADVANCEMENT OF TECHNOLOGY we can keep a closer watch than previously.

PM, did I not hear you say that the PNP would not engage in the blame game? This is the third news report that i have read where you or another minister has engaged in the blame game. These ministerial reports will amount to a policy of blame and insinuation. You do not have a lot of wiggle room PM. you applied for the job, you won the appointment, now you and your team need to do the work and stop complaining.

I don't want to see my MP broken down on the side of the road with his head in his bonnet. That is why insurance salesmen buy expensive cars. People like to identify with prosperity no matter what they say.
I agree, the Ministers must let the people know what they inherited, through audits with the Permanent Secretaries sitting in and offering explanations so that it has authencity.
The JLP is excellent at transference. They pas on their deeds to others. The PNP must not let that happen.

The idea of informing the country of what was inherited is good in principle. It should not be the responsible of the inheriting party to provide this report. Instead it should be done by a qualified objective party / agency and it is called an audit. Further, it should be done annually.

It will be a fire storm inside parliament later this afternoon,i hope all the members of green family will be able to stomach the pressure tomorrow morning,if you can't remain in your cold and listen how man a yard was bringing Jamaica underground.

Good talk Portia let them talk what they inherited because the Green family come online every morning seeking to repel every PNP policy. They are all up north waiting to see the down fall of you sister P.When Bruce was jumping up promising jobs jobs and more jobs then resign and left the people in famine the Green family endorse the move.Sista P as fulfilled the short to medium term jobs promise and will tun up di ting later for the long term job, continue to repel green family.

We will not judge your performance but what you say, but instead by what you do.
Over in the Portmore municipality we hear talk of victimization, where work previously approved in JLP communities have been shut down, while those in PNP areas are allowed to continue
Noel need to explain why this is so and if the allegations are true that the PM needs to but an end to this type of behaviour very quickly.
