Tenant accused of trying to kill his landlord
A man, who reportedly broke into his landlord’s home and tried to strangle him days before their court hearing over unpaid rent, was offered bail in the sum of $300,000.
Mark Gordon was offered bail by Judge Pettigrew-Collins on charges of attempted murder and housebreaking.
According to allegations, on the day in question the complainant was inside his home sleeping when he was awakened by noise and saw the accused inside his house.
Allegations are that the accused attacked the complainant and started squeezing his throat.
Further allegations are that the complainant started crying out for help and his neighbours came to his assistance.
But the alleged burglar escaped.
Following the incident, the matter was reported and Gordon was arrested and charged.
Gordon’s lawyer has, however, denied the allegations against her client.
According to her, it was a case of mistaken identity and her client is anxious to clear his name.
“There was no way he could have had access to the complainant’s side of the house unless he was let in,” she said.
Additionally, she said her client was at his home during the alleged incident and the police did not find any blood or marks of a struggle on him.
Gordon was subsequently offered bail on condition that he reports to the Matilda’s Corner Police Station Mondays to Thursdays.
He is to return to court on March 29.
