The most decorated Caribbean hotelier has been decorated...again

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

THE Caribbean's most decorated hotelier, Sandals chairman Gordon 'Butch' Stewart was last week honoured by the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences (AAHS) with a Lifetime Achievement Award for hospitality excellence.

Stewart was on hand to receive the coveted award at an elegant awards ceremony and cocktail reception May 9 at The Plaza Hotel's Rose Club in New York City.

Citing his "entrepreneurial spirit that has transformed the all-inclusive resort experience and created one of the world's most recognised luxury brands," AAHS president, Joseph Cinque, presented the award to Stewart before an audience of business luminaries, including Sandals Resorts' partners - consummate tastemaker, Martha Stewart and Melvin Ming, Chief operating officer of the Sesame Workshop, the company behind legendary Sesame Street.

"This is an extraordinary honour, and to receive it among good friends and business partners is an exceptional delight," said an elated Stewart.

"For 30 years, we have worked to build Sandals Resorts into a premier brand, transforming the all-inclusive concept into a true, luxury experience that exceeds our guests' high expectations. I am truly thrilled to accept this award not only for myself, but for the employees of Sandals Resorts, who provide outstanding hospitality every single day."

The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences is the world's premiere organisation for awarding excellence in travel, cuisine, luxury products and services. Each year, the Academy bestows its sought after International Star Diamond Award — a recognition that many strive for but few achieve — on superlative establishments that are deemed to be of pinnacle quality.
