Toddler's body found in Rio Cobre
Friday, August 24, 2012
THE body of two-year-old Karissa Wallace was yesterday fished from the Rio Cobre, in the vicinity of Lakemore Gardens, just outside of Spanish Town in St Catherine.
The gruesome discovery came two days after the toddler went missing from her community in Dam Head, St Catherine.
"[On] Tuesday we heard that the little girl went missing, and from that time the parents, family and friends had been searching hard to find her," said Oneil, a man who said he was part of a group that went in search of the child.
Police yesterday did not provide details on how the child went missing.
"Details as to how the child went missing were still being collected at this time, and both parents are to be questioned," said one police officer as he drove away with parents of the toddler in a service vehicle yesterday.
"No parent should lose his or her child that way, and [it] has really left me in shock," said a woman at the scene where the child's body was found. She was among a group people who watched as the police carried out their investigations following the discovery of the child's body.
