Transport Authority recalling rural transport licenses
New licenses for opening of transport centre downtown
Jamaica Observer
Tuesday, January 04, 2011
THE Transport Authority is recalling road licences from some rural bus and taxi operators with routes terminating in Downtown Kingston, to reflect the new terminal points in that part of the city when the new transport centre opens on January 15.
The new licences will provide appropriate directions on how to operate along the corridors to Downtown and the terminal facilities.
“For the operators from Portland, St Mary and St Thomas, their road licences will be available on January 10. For the operators from Linstead via Crossroads, Rock River, Glengoffe, Scotts Hall, King Weston and Mount Industry, the licences will be available on January 11. Road licences for Duhaney Park, Bull Bay, Sea View and other Jamaica Urban Transit Company sub licensed routes will be available on January 12, ” said Petra-Kene Williams, Communication and Customer Services Manager at the Transport Authority.
Williams said that the authority's licensing system has been updated and the new road licences will be available for collection at the Transport Authority’s head office in Kingston.
Licences for route taxi operators of Waltham Park, Jones Town and Chisholm Avenue will be ready on January 13.
Operators are also being urged to collect their licences on the specified dates so that they can be fully aware of the approved routes and terminal facilities. For further information, operators may call the Transport Authority at 926-8912 or the toll free number at 1-888-991-5687.
